This research, which focuses on the management and decision-making barriers that Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) principals encounter, has a potential for improvement. This research aims to understand how principals can optimize school components when selecting which programs will and will not be included in their educational schedule. Interviews were conducted with school principal leaders, with one or more teachers trained in CS instruction in their schools. From the interviews, we found the principals liked the idea of computer science, but show limited knowledge of what CS education is and its differences from the larger concept of “technology literacy.” The research found the issues that hurt CS curriculum expansion are 1) funding issues, 2) classroom time, and 3) CS training.
