This technical report analyzes insights from interviews with students who participated in the Data Jam program. The study focuses on five posters created by tenth-grade students and the semi-structured interviews conducted via Zoom in the spring of 2024. The interviews aimed to identify challenges and successes in students’ understanding of statistical concepts and their ability to create and interpret graphs using CODAP. Key findings include students’ positive experiences with teamwork and communication, their proficiency with CODAP, and the impact of Data Jam on their perception of science. However, challenges were noted in interpreting graphs, understanding magnitudes of measurements, and describing relationships between variables. The report suggests that future Data Jam implementations could benefit from additional support in these areas and recommends professional development for teachers to better address these challenges. The findings also highlight the importance of engaging students in predicting graph outcomes and discussing causality. The report concludes with recommendations for improving Data Jam datasets to ensure more meaningful relationships can be identified by students.
